Q: What car should I fix up? 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T or 1970 Chevelle SS?
I’m gonna fix up a car and i’m stuck between a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, and a 1970 Chevelle SS. I want a hot car, but fast

A: All comes down to what you want and how much money you plan on spending.

Both are pretty hot cars and can be equally as fast.

The chevy will be cheaper to build, since chevy parts are generally cheap all the way around. Especially engine parts. You can build a screaming chevy engine for an affordable price.

Where Dodge you will pay more for every engine part compared to chevrolet.

So if money isnt an issue, then it all comes down to if you’re a Mopar or a Chevy person…. Thats about it.

Q: Anyone know where I can find a junk 1970 Dodge Challenger?
Looking for one in or around Ohio. I’ve always liked the looks of this car, and I want to rebuild one myself for an early 18 B-day present. I’ve been searching for a while with no luck. I’d call around, but it’s kind of late.

A: this guy had a few of those he,s not close to ohio but he can arrange to get one to you if he has one and if he don’t he,ll find you one, good luck. http://drmopar.com

Q: How do I persuade my parents to buy me a white 1970 Dodge Challenger?

A: that may be hard to do,especially considering the cost of this vehicle and the value of it,that’s one of the most wanted challengers on the market right now so your going to have to be real convincing on this one,i cant even afford one of those right now,all i can tell you is give them the resons why they should buy you this one and cross your fingers and hope they believe you, good luck with it.

Q: I have a blue 1970 dodge challenger r/t with a white vinyl top. I was wondering how many of these were made?
The car also has power disc brakes blow rim steering wheel,am/fm multi plex radio rear defrost and power windows, all factory options. Is this a white hat special and can i find out how many cars like mine were made? Thanks for any leads and or info.

A: Galen Govier is the most knowledgeable as far as I know. The “rim blow” horn was a fairly rare option as was the AM/FM multiplex radio, power windows and rear defroster were more common as was power brakes, disc brakes were found fairly often as well but still not found all that often, not like power steering which about all Challengers had. All in all it has a nice list of options which makes the entire package very nice, however the key question is engine, transmission, rear end package. Are we talking hemi power, four speed with a Dana rear which would make it pretty rare especially if it has an “N96 cold air option” (Shaker hood) or are we talking 383 Magnum, 727 auto with a 3.23 open rear? The drive train package is what makes this particular model “rare” or “very rare”.

1/8/08 – I saw “Silver Bullets” answer and it is extremely misleading as is a lot of information in “Wikipedia”. I’m not sure of the number of Challenger R/T’s built but it is way more than 2,172 or whatever he quoted. 1970 was the first year for the Challenger and production ended with the 1974 model year. R/T’s were available only in 1970 and 1971, I have the production figures somewhere but I can’t lay my hands on them due to remodeling at my home, they are packed in a box somewhere in the rec room.

Q: how much would it cost to put a whole new interior in a 1970 dodge challenger?
i need seats, carpet, etc. but not the dash or anything like that.
thanks

A: Well it could cost anything. It depends what type of interior. If it’s Alcantara leather a fortune. If it’s vinyl peanuts. You need to be more specific so you can be helped!!

Q: What type of fuel does a 1970 Dodge Challenger 318 V8 use and how good is the mileage?

A: 16-17 miles per gallon if your lucky and it will run good off regular fuel ,but you may need to run a lead additive to it to make it run right, those engines was designed to run off good old regular leaded gas, which you cant buy anymore,if it were me id try the modern day regular in it, my truck is a 72 and it runs good off regular 87 octane, and it has a 70 model 318 in it,i do add an additive to it once in a while though, good luck.

Q: How rare is a alpine white 1970 Dodge Challenger and would I be able to purchase one?

Q: Can anyone tell me what use the wires on the hood of a 1970’s Dodge Challenger have?
Example: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/16/1970_Dodge_Challenger_TransAm.jpg

A: those are just hood pins used as extra safety to keep the hood from flying open at higher speeds,we used them on all the cars we use to race because back then the hood latches had a bad tendency to come loose and when that happened the hood would fly open causing damage to the vehicle and cause you to loose your sight of the road, the wires you see just keep you from loosing the pins, good luck.

Q: What would the gas mileage be on the 1970 Dodge Challenger 440 R/T Hemi Six Pak.?
I live in the U.K, where petrol/gas costs around $7.50 a gallon (£1.10/litre)

I was wondering what it would do to my wallet, if I were to use it as a daily driver. I do around 30 miles a week, so not that much mileage…

A: That Mopar 440 hemi was an extremely powerful engine. Holy smoke I miss those muscle car days!
If your engine is in tune, you should get about 12 mpg – maybe 15 if you are lucky.
It mainly depends on how you drive. If you constantly stick your foot up into the carburetors (I would not blame you), you’ll get much lower gas mileage.
You’ll want to burn premium or midgrade in that monster too.

Q: Need Information on 1970 Dodge Challenger?
What price should I ask for one that has been sitting for about 15 years?
Whatever it came out of the factory with it still has.
4speed transmission.
Thanks everybody for the info.

A: It will depend on how it is equipped and it’s condition. These current listings from Hemmings may help you appraise the value of yours.

Q: What’s your favorite movie featuring a white 1970 Dodge Challenger?

A: that would be vanishing point, but i think the one thing that most people don’t know about the ending of that movie is the car that they destroyed was not a 70 challenger, it was indeed a 69 camaro rs,i knew that back when the movie first came out it was cheaper for them to wreck a camaro than a new challenger,i also own a copy of the movie and have framed it out one frame at a time, that was a little movie magic on their part of filming this movie, were talking about the original version of it though, good luck.

Q: 1970 dodge challenger k member tag?
Im currently working on a 1970 Dodge Challenger. the k member has a metal tag on it with the number 52. What is this tag for?

A: the tag is for identification for either a small block or a large block application, that’s how dodge identified the k members on those cars, there’s also a set of numbers on it that help to identify it,run the serial number and find out what it came out with, good luck.

Q: i need to know the original body paint color of my 1970 dodge challenger with vin number JS29N0B244810?
the data plate on my 1970 dodge challenger witrh vin number JS29N0B244810 was lost and i need to know the original body paint color and interior colors.

A: Th 17 digit VIN didn’t come into play until the late 70’s or early 80’s, but I’m leaning toward late 70’s.

The VIN does not reveal the colors on the car.

You might be able to check the door jam and see a paint code somewhere there.

But your best bet is to take the car to a body shop and let one of them see if they can help you.

Q: 1970 Dodge Challenger?
